Rowson declares: “We are dedicated to the pursuit of happiness. But it keeps getting away. No longer. The Happiness Manifesto, with extraordinary brevity, can now show you the path to complete happiness forever, from whichever barricade of the political spectrum you find yourself screaming across. Happiness guaranteed!”

Martin Rowson (b. 1959) is a multi-award winning English cartoonist, illustrator, writer and poet, whose work has appeared regularly in the Guardian, the Daily Mirror, The Times, the Spectator and the Morning Star. His books include comic book adaptations of T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, Laurence Sterne’s Tristram Shandy, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels and Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels’ The Communist Manifesto. Rowson is chair of the British Cartoonists’ Association and has served three terms as a vice-president of the Zoological Society of London. Recent publications include Dance of Death: A Vanitas (Self Made Hero, 2019) and Plague Songs (Smokestack Books, 2020). In 2017, one of his Guardian cartoons provoked a full-page editorial in the Daily Mail, which described him and his work as “disgusting… deranged… sick and offensive.”
